President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said a letter he had recently received from his US counterpart Barack Obama was "mostly a serious step towards future".
The President spoke to Azerbaijani journalists as part of his visit to Istanbul where he attended the third summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia.
"The US President's letter will outline prospects for developing the relations between the two countries."
"The relations between Azerbaijan and the United States have long history in all areas President Obama mentioned in his letter," President Ilham Aliyev said.
"Azerbaijan's role in peacekeeping operations, the country's initiatives in the energy sphere, and, in general, our energy policy, which was launched in the mid-1990s, have changed the world's energy map."
The President said: "The agenda of the US-Azerbaijan relations is very broad. I hope we'll include new, additional elements in our cooperation, which will be in the interests of both sides. The letter is very friendly. We'll continue our cooperation in all issues featured in the letter."
