The European Parliament has adopted a resolution on a new bilateral agreement signed between the European Union and Armenia.

The resolution features the final declaration of the Eastern Partnership Summit held in Brussels in November 2017, pointing out the EU’s Global Strategy for Foreign and Security Policy which emphasizes the inviolability of international borders, as well as support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan within its internationally recognized borders. The document also features the references to the annual report of the European Parliament on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy for 2017.

Article 5 of the document outlines that the new agreement covers the territory of the EU and the Republic of Armenia, afterwards urging the European Commission to prevent the illegal export of any product to the European Union through Armenia. Thus, the European Parliament expresses its protest against the export of the goods which were illegally manufactured in the occupied Azerbaijani territories to the territory of the EU.

On the other hand, the resolution in detail covers numerous issues, including the falsification of the elections, oligarchic situation, corruption, and problems in the field of justice in Armenia. The document also criticizes the human rights situation and media freedom, persecution of journalists and gender equality in Armenia.

In conclusion, the resolution underlines the European Parliament’s concern about the Metsamor nuclear power plant which is still operating in Armenia.

The European Parliament adopted a document on Azerbaijan too. The document outlines a special item on refugees and IDPs urging to contribute to the government`s efforts to support numerous refugees, internally displaced persons and civilians living in conflict zones within the internationally recognized borders of Azerbaijan.

The document describes Azerbaijan as a strategic ally of the European Union in energy field.
