"The position of Russia is unequivocal and invariable, that is, Russia recognizes and honors territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. The State Duma officially did not send any deputies to "Nagorno Karabakh". They, in Nagorno Karabakh, for certain knew that if they will address to me with such request I will refuse it", Chairman of the State Duma of Federal Assembly of Russia Boris Gryzlov stated today in Moscow, at the meeting with Speaker of Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Ogtay Asadov.
As earlier reported, on the invitation of the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the delegation of parliament of the Azerbaijan Republic led by Chairman of Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov is visiting Moscow.
Boris Gryzlov noted high level and dynamical character of mutual relations between Russia and Azerbaijan in all spheres. As he said, relations between the two countries develop dynamically, held regular meetings at the highest level. Fruitful contacts of heads of both states bring huge contribution to the strengthening of bilateral relations. Boris Gryzlov underlined that visit of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Moscow on celebrating of the 65th anniversary of the Victory in war on May 9, consolidates the Russian-Azerbaijani relations. He especially noted merits of the Azerbaijani people which have brought a worthy share in achievement of the Victory. Mr. Gryzlov especially noted importance of interaction of the representatives of parliaments both on bilateral basis, and in the frame of the international organizations, and in the given context underlined the importance of the further deepening and development of the Russian-Azerbaijani inter-parliamentary ties. In his opinion, inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries develop successfully that as a whole reflects the general positive dynamics inherent in the Russian-Azerbaijani relations in all spheres. Boris Gryzlov congratulated Azerbaijan on outstanding economic successes, and also wished successes in carrying out of forthcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan.
Ogtay Asadov, in turn, declared that Azerbaijan and Russia are strategic partners and between the friendly countries there are no problems. He also noted the role of mutual visits and meetings of heads of the states of both countries which are the serious factor in further deepening and development of mutual relations. Chairman of Milli Majlis highly appreciated development of inter-parliamentary links, reminded that more recently in Moscow passed 9 sessions of the joint commission. The Speaker expressed confidence for the further development of inter-parliamentary relations, underlining the importance of contacts at this level and in the format of CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly and other international organizations.
Asadov told about development of Azerbaijan and economic successes, despite world financial crisis. He also focused attention on work carried out in Azerbaijan on preservation and development of ethnic, language, cultural and religious originality of representatives of the different people living in Azerbaijan, in particular about preservation of Russian culture and language.
Ogtay Asadov also told that the Russian representation of Heydar Aliyev Foundation under the direction of Leyla Aliyeva who does very much for development of relations between youth of both countries very successfully works. In his opinion, the edition and distribution to Russia of the "Baku" magazine also brings to the Russian public of the objective information on the rich historical and cultural heritage of the Azerbaijani people and realities of modern Azerbaijan. Chairman of Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov drew attention to the prospects of settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, noting the delay of conflict impedes development of the countries of region. He noted active efforts of Russia as the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair and expressed hope that Russia as the country-co-chair will promote fair resolution of conflict and stability establishment in all region.
