The 40th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Conakry, Republic of Guinea adopted a resolution introduced by the OIC Youth Forum for Dialogue and Cooperation on the activity of this organization - a move reaffirming CFM OIC`s position on recognition of the Khojaly tragedy as a genocide.
According to head of the OIC Youth Forum`s delegation to the session Elmaddin Mehdiyev, the resolution has a special article in the resolution dealing with the Justice for Khojaly campaign implemented by the Forum and initiated by the OIC Youth Forum general coordinator Leyla Aliyeva. Under the article, CFM OIC welcomes the activity of the campaign and calls on the member countries to take an active part in the campaign at a national and international level for the recognition of the Khojaly genocide as the outrage on humanity.
Mehdiyev added that thanks to the activity of the campaign organizers, the OIC Parliamentary Union recognized last year the Khojaly tragedy as the outrage on humanity and act of genocide. CFM OIC also recognized the tragedy as the genocide at its session held in November 2012, in Djibouti. In February this year, the Khojaly tragedy was recognized as the outrage on humanity and act of genocide by the OIC summit of Heads of State.
The resolution also welcomed the OIC YF international project on awarding “10 Muslims who can change the world” and called on the member countries to cooperate on this project with the OIC youth Forum. The project was kickstarted during the constituent meeting of the Islamic Countries Young Entrepreneurs Network held in November 2011 in Baku. The Baku meeting decided to hold the first ceremony of awarding at an international level.
OIC CFM tasked the Youth Forum with becoming an organizer of the OIC conference of ministers of youth and sport in 2014.
