Pendency in Nagorno-Karabakh problem settlement hampers the achievement of peace, security and cooperation on South Caucasus, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said in an interview to "Moskovskiy komsomolets" newspaper.
"The importance of South Caucasus, as a region neighboring to Turkey and Russia, is obvious. We are guided by the strategy aimed at the establishment of peace, stability and welfare in the region, we are also trying to achieve peace, security and cooperation here", Turkish President emphasized.
Abdullah Gul underlined that the unsolved problem of Nagorno Karabakh is the main impediment to the progress in South Caucasus.
"I suppose that the position of Turkey regarding this issue coincides with Russia`s standpoint", the President said.
Abdullah Gul expressed the readiness of his country to promote the settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
"The progress to be achieved on this way, will undoubtedly have positive influence on Turkish-Armenian relations", Turkish President emphasized.
