‘Azerbaijan built capable, advanced, combat-ready and well-equipped army’

“Recent escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, armed clashes and assaults on the line of contact are the result of Armenian provocation,” famous Jordanian social activist, political analyst and writer Sultan Hattab said in an interview with AZERTAC.

“The Armenian aggression led to the occupation of 20 percent of the Azerbaijani lands in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, more than one million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced persons, and the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has been frozen for many years,” he said.

Hattab pointed out that many international organizations, including the OIC, and many countries that have friendly relations with Azerbaijan should provide a political support to Azerbaijan to liberate its territory.”The international community also needs to step up efforts for resuming serious negotiations in line resolutions of international organizations," said the analyst.

Hattab said: "Liberation of a number of strategically important hills and settlements in Nagorno-Karabakh during recent hostilities testifies to a good combat training. After the restoration of its independence, Azerbaijan has actively engaged in building and re-equipping its armed forces. Over the past years, the country has been developing dynamically in all areas. The leadership of Azerbaijan channels oil revenues to the development of non-oil sector of the economy and social projects. Azerbaijan has managed to build a capable, modern, combat-ready and well-equipped army. However, having all opportunities to liberate its lands, Azerbaijan seeks peaceful settlement of the conflict," the political analyst said.

Commenting on the recent statement by the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) on the Armenian provocation on the front line, Hattab said that this is not the first resolution of the organization. He stressed that the OIC has made many statements on the occupation of Azerbaijani territories, urging Armenia to withdraw its troops from all occupied territories. "The OIC has always condemned the Armenian aggression and its constant provocations. The OIC also unanimously condemns the genocide against the Azerbaijani people," said Hattab.

Highlighting Jordan’s support for the position of Azerbaijan, he said that from the beginning of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, Jordan, as part of the Arab and Muslim world and the OIC, has always supported Azerbaijan.

The Jordanian political analyst added that the international community respects the policy of Azerbaijan and praises its commitment to peaceful settlement of the conflict.
