The 2nd Congress of Young CIS Orientalists has kicked off at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS).
Themed “Eastern societies: tradition and modernity”, the event is co-organized by the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SAM), the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Oriental Studies of ANAS and the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan.
The congress is attended by more than 70 researchers from 10 countries.
Speakers at the event, including ANAS president Akif Alizadeh and head of the Political Analysis and Information Provision Department at the Presidential Administration Elnur Aslanov stressed the importance of the congress. They said it would contribute to development of Orientalism. The speakers also hailed contributions of Azerbaijani Orientalists to world Oriental studies.
The event also heard reports about academic performances of prominent Azerbaijani orientalists including Aida Imanguliyeva, Ziya Bunyadov and Rustam Aliyev.
