Deputy Premier of the government of the Russian Federation, plenipotentiary of the President of Russia in the North Caucasian federal district Alexander Khloponin met with the students and tutors of the Baku Slavic University (BSU).
In his opening remarks, rector of BSU Kamal Abdullayev said the meeting would strengthen cooperation of BSU with the higher educational institutions of the North Caucasus, expand the ties in the field of education and culture between the two countries.
Touching upon the role of the Russian language in the country, Abdullayev said today the Russian language is actively functioning in cultural life of Azerbaijan. Many newspapers and magazines, as well as textbooks and literary editions are published in Russian. Today the Baku Slavic University has become an important element on cooperation of Azerbaijan and Russia, and also with other Slavic countries.
Deputy Premier of the RF government highlighted the students and tutors on the goal of current visit of Russian delegation.
As Khloponin noted, the government of Russia plans to realize large investment projects in the North Caucasus and invites Azerbaijan to take part in them. Having informed on government program on development of the North Caucasus, he has underlined that the presentation of investment possibilities of regions of the North Caucasian district has taken place for the first time in Baku.
Speaking about cooperation with higher schools of the North Caucasian federal district and BSU, Khloponin noted that at level of the President of Russia it was decided to open the North Caucasian Federal University. At his words, as a part of this university the secular Islamic institute will be opened in this district, which does not have analogues both in Russia and on former soviet space.
As to the political aspect of the visit, Khloponin noted the importance of strengthening of relations between Russia and Azerbaijan. "Azerbaijan is certainly strategic partner for Russia, our brotherly state with which we will always increase potential of our mutual relations. I am convinced that close contacts, cooperation in the sphere of education, science and economy are those steps which we should make for strengthening of our close and friendly relations", Khloponin stated.
