The Azerbaijani officials led by Chairman of the State Committee on Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov, MPs, staff of FAO and embassies of Brazil and Switzerland in Azerbaijan visited Agdam region.
The aim of the visit is to participate in the trade exhibition dedicated to completion of the project "Capacity Building in Rural Development for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) and Refugees in New Settlements of Agdam District in Azerbaijan.
The project was financed by the governments of Azerbaijan and Switzerland and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
FAO representative in Azerbaijan Mustafa Sinaser said the main aim of the project was to improve the conditions of refugee families from Agdam and other regions of Azerbaijan. He said: "The project has been implemented since 2009 covered 3100 families in 14 settlements and 7 villages of Agdam region. The farmers earned more than 2 400 000 dollars. The incomes covered 5645 families.
The head of Agdam region Nizami Sadigov, ambassadors of Brazil and Switzerland to Azerbaijan hailed work done by the government of Azerbaijan to improve conditions of the refugees.
Azerbaijani minister of agriculture Ismat Abbasov stressed significance of the project. Ali Hasanov said the government has spent 5,300,000,000 AZN for refugees` needs. Of them, 3 billion falls to the share of the state budget, 1 billion 400 million to the Oil Fund and the remaining part to the international organizations.
The farmers were awarded with FAO certificates.
