Azerbaijan, WB signs new credit agreement to improve IDPs living conditions

On November 16th Azerbaijan`s Deputy Prime Minister Ali Hasanov and World Bank (WB) Baku Office representative Saida Bagirli signed a credit agreement within Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Living Standards and Livelihoods Project which aims to support the Azerbaijani Government`s efforts to improve living conditions and increase the economic self-reliance of targeted internally displaced persons. Total project cost is 78.40 million USD. The share of Azerbaijani government`s involvement in the project is 28.5 million USD.
It was noted that the main goals of the projects is to realize micro-projects, housing renovation, livelihood support which also reflects youth training, business development and income generating activities, as well as, project management and capacity building.
Project development objective will be achieved through: investments in infrastructure and services micro-projects, which are identified by IDP community members as their development priorities; rehabilitation of collective housing stock; investing in skills development and creating opportunities for micro-enterprise for individuals and community group through community mobilization and the provision of credit or grant start-up financing that enhance IDP abilities to gain employment and generate their own income; and improving counterpart project management capacity to coordinate, plan, monitor, program and supervise a wide range of community driven activities.
